Our work with children and young people aims to provide support and skill-building through a developmental lens. Our approach is centered around:
- Trust and Relationship Building – the initial sessions prioritise establishing a safe and trusting environment for the young person, which is crucial for effective therapy.
- Addressing Concerns and Skill-building – children and young people (with support from their parents/carers) will be encouraged to identify key concerns and areas for focus. This can involve providing time and space to explore concerns, and the practice and acquisition of strategies.
- Parental/Carer Involvement – the degree to which parents are involved in therapy sessions is thoughtfully determined by a range of factors, including the child’s age and developmental needs. For very young children, therapy primarily involves focusing on providing parents/carers with strategies to support their children. As children grow older, the therapy evolves to include more individual strategy work decided upon in collaboration with the young person, and incorporating parent/carer feedback at either the beginning or end of each session.
